The Donald Sangster International Airport (MBJ), also called the Montego Bay Jamaica Airport, is truly the gateway to Jamaica for tourists.
With well over three million passengers a year, this is the most popular airport in Jamaica.
Located in Montego Bay, The Donald Sangster International Airport is only an hour’s drive to Negril and ninety minutes to Ocho Rios.

Customs and Immigration
When you approach customs, you will notice three sections for Persons declaring, persons not declaring items and special need persons.
If you are declaring, ensure that you have all your invoices and a form of payment.
As for immigration, complete the immigration form from in flight or before you join the line. The immigration officer will also need to look at your passport, custom’s declaration form and your return ticket.
Shopping and Restaurants
There is no shortage of food at Sangster International Airport. A wide variety of food outlets with a mixture of fast-food restaurants and restaurants serving Jamaican dishes are available.
For a good tasting local dish, try the Jamaica Bobsled Café’s spicy chicken meal.
There are also a few gift shops for persons wishing to buy last minute souvenirs such as paintings, t- shirts, books, music and jewellery.
Transportation
Once you exit the airport, you have a choice of chartering a taxi, taking a hotel shuttle or renting a car.
The most popular form of transportation from Montego Bay airport is charted taxi. Charted taxis will take you directly to your destination and will only make stops on your request.
Now there are two taxi companies that are located at the airport: JUTA and JCAL.
At the moment, JCAL is offering the cheaper rate of the two. With JCAL, it only cost US$90 for one to four persons to go to Negril but with JUTA, the cost is US$100 for one to four persons and US$25 for each extra person.
Customer service agents from both companies are there to assist you with your transportation from the airport and to your destination.
Before you leave the airport, make certain that you have a contact number because you may want to use the same company when returning to the airport.
Large groups can charter a tour operator bus to the hotel. Small families can charter a licensed taxi to their destination.
There is also the option of renting a car. Hertz, Island, Budget International, Avis and Thrifty are the five car rental companies available at the airport.
Hotel Lounge
If your vacation destination is at Sandals Resorts, Super Clubs Resorts, Half Moon Hotel, Couples Resorts or Ritz-Carlton Hotel, then after you go through customs you will have the privilege of relaxing at your hotel’s own private lounge at the airport.
Customer service representatives will assist you with any problems that you may have at the airport and arrange transportation to your hotel. This transportation is already included in your all-inclusive package.
Relax in the lounge, have a drink and wait to be taken to your hotel.
Those persons that vacation at non-all inclusive hotels can easily make an arrangement for transportation to the hotel by going to the transportation hall.

In case of an emergency, there are many types of
accommodations that are located in and around Sangster International Airport.
Rooms are available for prices as low as US$30 for motels to hundreds of dollars for all-inclusive resorts and five-star hotels a night.
