Requirements

Getting married in Jamaica is easy. Here are the generally requirements that you will need to know.

  • You can be married in less than 24 hours after your arrival, providing prior application was made for a marriage licence.

Majority of hotels and all-inclusive resorts will make all the arrangements for you, including applying for the marriage licence, once you have submitted all the supporting documents.

Marriage licence application can also be made online.

  • The cost for the marriage licence is US$50 or J$4,000.

Your wedding planner in Jamaica will apply for your marriage licence once all the required documents were submitted. A copy of these documents must be sent to your wedding planner at least sixty days before you arrive in Jamaica.

 If you are already on the island and want to get married, you must apply for a marriage licence at the Ministry of National Security, which is located on 2 Oxford Road, Kingston 5 (telephone number 906 4908).


Important Documents

The following documents must be submitted before you get married in Jamaica:

  • Original proof of citizenship.
  • Original or certified copy of birth certificate which includes father's name.
  • Parents written consent if under the age of 18.
  • Original certificate of divorce if applicable, or certified copy of the death certificate for widow or widower.
  • No blood test is required.
  • In the case of a name change, certified copies of the documents indicating the same.

    All the above documents MUST be translated into English, and notarized where necessary.

    NB. To be on the safe side, check your country's requirements for getting married in Jamaica because there may be other requirements that must be completed before you arrive in Jamaica.

Church ministers are the most popular persons used to perform wedding ceremonies; however, you can also hire the services of a non-denominational marriage officer, who can legally perform the ceremony.

Wedding officials will charge a fee that usually ranges from US$80 to US$300. Depending on your requests, these services can take place in an office, home, church or hotel property.

If you don't have at least two witnesses, marriage officers can provide them for you.
